Black History Month

February is Black History Month! We’re kicking off this month’s Nine New Things by highlighting some workshops and events that focus on the past, present and future of the Black community at U of T and beyond. Everyone is welcome to join in and learn more!

1. Celebrating Black Authors

February 1 – March 1

Robarts Library

Head over to Robarts to see a celebration of Black authors that lasts all month long!

2. AfroFuturism Dance

February 5, 6 –  p.m.

Hart House, Activities Room

Connect to knowledge, history and movement through dance styles that map a rich history onto a current urban style.

3. Black Voices 2020

February 6, 6 – 9 p.m.

Innis Town Hall 

Black Voices highlights ideas and projects in the Black community and manifests new connections in the next generation.

4. U of T Drama Festival

February 6 – 8 

Hart House Theatre

Check out original, one-act plays at the U of T Drama Festival. Students perform and direct to compete for five coveted awards.

5. Black Excellence Ball

February 7, 4:30 – 10 p.m.
Goldring Centre

Get your ballroom battle on at Kiki ball! Featuring great prizes and a beginner-friendly vogue dance workshop.

6. Reflections

Now – February 28

Members of the Engineering community are invited to share lived experiences, advice and opportunities for change.

7. Staying healthy

Protect yourself & others

Protect yourself from viruses this season by washing your hands with soap and water, and staying home if you feel sick!
