Dear Students,
Volunteer Markers Needed for the COMC!
The Math Outreach Office is seeking approximately 200 student volunteers to mark the Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge.
What is the COMC? The Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge is Canada’s premier math contest, run by the Canadian Mathematical Society. The top 50 scorers will be invited to write the Canadian Math Olympiad, which will inform the selection of Canada’s International Math Olympiad Team.
What is U of T’s role? The U of T Math Department is the marking centre for all the English booklets in Ontario and Quebec and all the French booklets from across Canada. That adds up to around 4000 contest booklets.
What do volunteers do? Volunteers will help with scanning, marking, and recording data during the process (please see details in the google form below). We ask that all volunteers contribute a minimum of 4 hours.
What is the time frame? Scanning will start on November 11 and all contests will need to be fully marked and processed by December 1. The hours are flexible and you will have the choice of marking from home.
What do volunteers get out of this? Work towards a co-curricular record (CCR) entry. Gain experience grading math tests. Gain experience with Crowdmark software. Give back to a community of people who love math.
How to sign up? Please fill out the form at the following link to indicate your interest: https://forms.gle/fg6akgDQNSVXNAzn7. We will follow up by email in the first week of November.
