NSERC Scholarships in Fall 2017

NSERC has recently announced that the University of Toronto will receive 10 additional USRA awards. These awards can be held during the fall term (16 week term anytime between September 2017 and December 2017).

Due to the limited number of awards and a short turnaround, RSO will be holding an internal competition for applications.  Please submit all completed applications to the Department of Mathematics by the department deadline of Monday, September 25, 2017 by 9:00 am (firm deadline).  Awards will be allocated based on a first-come-first-serve basis. If more than 10 applications are received, decisions will be made based on GPA. Additional information on the application requirements can be found on our website: http://www.research.utoronto.ca/research-funding-opportunities/undergraduate-student-research-award/

Note that NSERC has strict rules pertaining to the eligibility for holding an NSERC USRA award.  All USRA eligibility requirements can be found on NSERC’s site: http://www.nserc-crsng.gc.ca/Students-Etudiants/UG-PC/USRA-BRPC_eng.asp

In addition, we would like to highlight some of the key eligibility requirements for students wishing to hold one of these awards in the fall term:

  • You may hold only one USRA per fiscal year (May 1 to April 30).
  • have completed all the course requirements of at least the first year of university study (or two academic terms) of your bachelor’s degree;
  • you must work full time hours during the tenure of award and not be enrolled in classes
  • have been registered in at least one of the two terms immediately before holding the award in a bachelor’s degree program at an eligible university;
  • not have started a program of graduate studies in the natural sciences or engineering at any time

Students are required to take the initiative and speak directly with the prospective supervisor.

Documentation should be completed after the supervisor has agreed to the research topic and content.
