Are you nearing the end of your graduate program? Are you wondering what your career options are?
The School of Graduate Studies, in partnership with the Career Centre and Grad Life are hosting a series of panel presentations to help graduate students at the University of Toronto explore and think creatively about a career outside academe.
Our panelists are U of T alumni and individuals who have chosen to pursue non-academic careers after completing their graduate studies. Panelists have graduated with degrees in a wide range of areas such as the humanities, life sciences, social sciences, and physical sciences.
Join us at the Bahen Centre on Monday, November 11th, 2013 at 4:00 pm for our opening presentation followed by a series of panels starting at 5:30 pm.
Panel topics will cover a wide range of career options:
Entrepreneurship and Start-ups
Business Management and Consulting
Communications and Media
Government, Policy and Public Sector
Social Innovation and Non-profits Organizations
Education
Applied Research and Development
Panel discussions will be followed by a reception hosted by the Career Centre from 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm where you can speak one-on-one with the panelists. Light refreshments will be served.

Making Connections
Learn how to communicate and make connections in-person in a large networking situation. Find out how to navigate a room and start a conversation, how to sustain a conversation, when is it appropriate to talk about a job/when not, how to follow up after the conversation, and when to close the conversation and move on. Understand how your communication style affects your networking.

Using LinkedIn to Effectively Job Search
In this hands-on session you learn: how to incorporate social media strategies into your networking and job search; and how to update your LinkedIn profile so that it looks attractive to employers. Set up your LinkedIn profile at www.linkedin.com prior to the event.
