The Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplement provides financial support to Canada Graduate Scholarship recipients to study abroad for a portion of their study program. Eligible Canada Graduate Scholarship recipients may receive up to $6,000 for travel and accommodation to any eligible foreign university or research institution in the world. Deadline: Friday May 28th 2010 Eligible Students should submit their completed application to the Graduate Awards Office by 4:00 pm. Eligibility The program is available to Canadian citizens or permanent residents who have accepted or hold an NSERC, SSHRC or CIHR CGSM, CGSD or Vanier scholarship whose award will still be active at the time the research study abroad begins. Value and Duration The value of the CGS-MSFSS is up to $6,000, based on the information and budget justification provided in the application. A defined research study period is between three to six months. Application Process Qualified applicants must complete the necessary documentation and submit it to the Graduate Awards Office at the School of Graduate Studies by May 28, 2010. Both the applicant's current research supervisor and the potential host supervisor are required to submit letters detailing their support of the proposed foreign research study period. The host supervisor must indicate that they have the resources available (financial, supervision time, equipment, etc.) to support the applicant's planned research activities (see website for details). At the time of this correspondence, the current application form and instructions are not available from the Tri-agencies, but are expected to be posted shortly - please refer to the previous year's competition for information on assembling the application (requirements will be similar if not the same).
