The Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplement provides financial support to Canada
Graduate Scholarship recipients to study abroad for a portion of their study
program. Eligible Canada Graduate Scholarship recipients may receive up to $6,000
for travel and accommodation to any eligible foreign university or research
institution in the world.

Deadline: Friday May 28th 2010

Eligible Students should submit their completed application to the Graduate Awards
Office by 4:00 pm.

Eligibility

The program is available to Canadian citizens or permanent residents who have
accepted or hold an NSERC, SSHRC or CIHR CGSM, CGSD or Vanier scholarship whose
award will still be active at the time the research study abroad begins.

Value and Duration

The value of the CGS-MSFSS is up to $6,000, based on the information and budget
justification provided in the application. A defined research study period is
between three to six months.

Application Process

Qualified applicants must complete the necessary documentation and submit it to the
Graduate Awards Office at the School of Graduate Studies by May 28, 2010.
Both the applicant's current research supervisor and the potential host supervisor
are required to submit letters detailing their support of the proposed foreign
research study period. The host supervisor must indicate that they have the
resources available (financial, supervision time, equipment, etc.) to support the
applicant's planned research activities (see website for details).

At the time of this correspondence, the current application form and instructions
are not available from the Tri-agencies, but are expected to be posted shortly -
please refer to the previous year's competition for information on assembling the
